The Ohio Department of Mental Health pursues clinical excellence through
progressive treatment, education, research, and advocacy. In order to ensure that quality mental
health care is available in communities to all Ohioans, the Department is involved in
several quality initiatives:
Clinical Best Practice Initiatives
The Ohio Department of Mental Health works with affiliates at the local, state, and national levels to initiate, coordinate, facilitate, and manage efforts to promote recovery and resiliency through the accelerated adoption of best mental health practices.
Clinical Quality Council
The Clinical Quality Council is a statewide multi-faceted network of stakeholders who advise the Ohio Department of Mental Health Medical Director in defining, promoting and achieving Recovery, Resiliency, and Cultural Competence through the Clinical Quality Agenda for the transformation of Ohio's mental health care system.
Clinical Quality Publications
The Ohio Department of Mental Health publishes newsletters and reports on a regular basis to improve clinical quality. Quarterly newsletters include Quality Matters and the Ohio Forensic Newsletter.
Forensic Services
The interface between the mental health and criminal justice systems is significant. The Ohio Department of Mental Health collaborates with involved constituencies to develop forensic policies, propose forensic programs, assist in forensic legislation, provide clinical and organizational forensic consultation, support the ODMH Forensic Product Line, and provide forensic education and training.
Pre-Admission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR)
The Pre-Admission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR) unit is part of the Medical Director's Division, Office of Quality Improvement. The unit is required to determine whether or not an individual who has an active diagnosis of mental illness meets Medicaid criteria for needing a nursing facility and specialized services for mental illness.
SOQIC
Solutions for Ohio’s Quality Improvement and Compliance (SOQIC) is a statewide collaborative initiative within the mental health system dedicated to improving quality, reducing costs, and ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements. The SOQIC forms are an integrated documentation system that, when used with good clinical practice, will be fully compliant with ODMH and ODADAS rules, payer requirements (Medicaid/Medicare), and accreditation standards (JCAHO, CARF and COA).
