The Ohio Mental Health Network for School Success
Positive school climates, along with expanded models of integrated health and mental health services, will ensure our students have an equal chance to succeed in school. Research is fast accumulating on the urgency of removing barriers to learning and on strategies that bring families, schools and mental health professionals together to improve behavioral and academic outcomes for children and youth.
The mission of
The Ohio Mental Health Network for School Success (OMHNSS), is to help schools, community-based agencies and families work together to achieve improved educational and developmental outcomes for all children—especially those at emotional or behavioral risk and those with mental health problems.
In existence since 2001, the OMHNSS consists of action networks spearheaded by contracted affiliate organizations with university partners in six regions of the state. Central coordination and technical assistance is provided by the Center for School-Based Mental Health Programs at Miami University. The OMHNSS is supported through funding from the Ohio Department of Mental Health, Ohio Department of Education and the National Association of State Directors of Special Education.
Ohio has been recognized nationally as a leader in building and expanding collaboration across education, mental health and family-serving organizations. The OMHNSS is one of the best practice initiatives promoted by the Ohio Department of Mental Health through its state-affiliated Coordinating Centers of Excellence (CCOEs) and Networks.
